Lagos Will Be Hard for You A Nigeria Short Story Collection by Ayotola Tehingbola

From journal entries of a girl kidnapped by Boko Haram in Nigeria, to a woman whose lover is losing his mind in the States, these short stories weave narratives exploring loss, unexpressed desire and more.

Part of Sareeta’s List, a powerful and redefining collection of emotionally resonant stories commissioned by the late Sareeta Domingo.

A heartwrenching collection of tales that deeply expose, including:

An almost-blind mother living in the village who pawns her daughter off in a final attempt to save her

A grieving son who, according to tradition, must bury his Muslim father in twenty-four hours in the thick of winter

A dominatrix wants to give life to her sexual kinks in her repressive household, only to find the dark side of the silence strangling her home

Two brothers who we follow through the joys of boyhood, separated through the political unrest of Nigeria

Through the cultural lens of Nigeria, Tehingbola shines a light on all of our humanity, the worst and best of us, with vibrant characters in scenarios that grip at the core of you and linger long after the last page.
