NAIROBI BOOK CLUB

Welcome to the Nairobi Book Club, a space where book lovers connect beyond the page. Launched in 2024, we’re building a community for Nairobians who want to share stories, swap ideas, and find new friends through the power of reading.

Annual Fee: KES 1,500 (Membership valid until December 2026)

The Idea Behind The Nairobi Book Club

This is more than just a book club. It’s a community for curious minds about Kenyan Stories being shared and read together by Kenyans.

We pick great Kenyan and African books, hold thoughtful discussions, and create real connections in and around Nairobi.

Each month, we announce two book choices—ranging from essential Kenyan and African literature. Pick the ones that catch your eye. At month’s end, we gather at member venues—relaxed cafes, gardens, or quiet corners of the city—to talk them through. Details go out to members only.

“Come for the books. Stay for the conversation. Find your people.”

· The Nairobi Book Club Team

From Our Members

“I’d just moved to Nairobi and didn’t know many people. This circle changed that. I’ve met fascinating folks, read books I’d never have chosen alone, and finally have a social life that involves actual conversation.”
—Shikoh Gichohi

“The WhatsApp group is surprisingly lively—always a good sign. And the in-person meets are genuinely fun. No pretension, just people who love books and good company.”
— Odhiambo Odinga

Common Questions

What does my KES 1,500 pay for?

It covers organising monthly meetups, running the online community, and arranging member perks like author events and discounts. It helps us keep the circle committed and sustainable.

Do I have to read all two books each month?

Not at all. Read one, two or all —whatever fits your schedule. Our discussions are designed so everyone can join in, regardless.

Where exactly do you meet?

Venues are shared with members at the start of each month. We pick different spots around Nairobi—sometimes a cafe, sometimes a garden, always somewhere accessible. You cover your own transport and any drinks or snacks.

How do I get the books?

When we announce the monthly titles, we also share where to find them—both physical copies from local bookstores and e-book options where available.

What if I miss a meetup?

No pressure. We usually schedule more than one meetup date, so you can catch the next one. Or just rejoin the following month. It’s flexible.

Can I bring someone?

Yes, please do—especially if they love reading. If they enjoy it, they’re welcome to sign up and stay.
