Description
This anthology is a compilation of translated poems from Mutiiri: Njaranda ya Miikarire, a journal founded in 1994 by Ngugi Thiong’o at New York University, USA.
A majority of the contributors to that journal were writers who were either forced into exile by the Kenyan government in the 1980s or people who willingly emigrated in pursuit of educational and career advancement opportunities.
This anthology could be read as a literary document on Kenya’s social and political history, while the translated poems are informed by experiences of colonialism, neo-colonial authoritarianism, harsh economic conditions, clamor for change ad the quest for justice, gender equity and freedom.
