The making of an icon The inspiring journey of Jalang’o Book by Eugine Kabasa
The Making of an Icon is not a traditional biography but a commentary. I have always been inspired by the journey of Jalang’o. His rise to stardom has unfolded right in front of us and the journey has been an uphill climb to say the least. He has been the fishmonger in Homabay, the backup cast at Jicho Four, the Radio star, the face of Billboards and President Obama’s emcee all under less than two decades. Felix Odiwour, now famed as Jalang’o has dragged himself and his family out of the abject poverty he was born into. A journey that started off as an impossible one, with humongous odds to beat turned out to be an adventure and an exciting one for that matter. Jalang’o has embraced his struggles, made a raft for every flood he has been through and found a reason to hold on stronger in the middle of the most violent of storms.
Resilience, commitment and fearlessness caps what his journey has been about. Taking rejections with a pinch of salt and moving forward. Finding the silver lining to every cloud that dulls his sky. Jalang’o has mastered the art of punching above his weight and going places he might not even fit. But he has left his fingerprints on everything he has touched. He has given his life to everything he has had to do.
This is not a biography but a well-crafted inspiration which alludes to specific events from the journey of highs and lows in the life of Jalang’o. The author considers this work a commentary of a life of an icon who has continuously reinvented himself. Not every aspect of Jalang’o’s life is included here. I have only selected those that he has made public and I find inspiring. So basically, this is a commentary of Jalang’o’s journey crafted to inspire you to get past your limits.
