In 1811, the waters of the Caribbean are once again swimming with pirates. 100 years after their golden age, the fierce ships are increasing in numbers and controlling the area. Emily is a young woman who lives on a small island that is run by the pirate Katharine. Their island home is full of refugees and lost souls looking for a family connection. Surrounding their island are Swimmers, people who live in the water who are often referred to as mermaids. Amidst the Swimmers is Madican, a young man who is testing Emily’s strength to love, and her willingness to enter the life of a pirate. When their island hideout is compromised, Madican’s younger sister Bew is kidnapped and forced to find the lost sunken treasure of the Atocha. Emily must risk her relationship with Madican and face her fears of drowning to help rescue Bew. But rescuing the young girl also comes with a price that could cause her to lose everything she loves.
