She has two Master’s Degrees from Yale University, and Johns Hopkins University.
She was awarded a Hodder fellowship at Princeton University, and a fellowship at the Radcliffe Institute of Harvard University. In 2008, she received the $500,000 MacArthur Genius Grant.
She has 16 honorary PhDs including Yale University, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Edinburgh, SOAS University of London, University of Pennsylvania and many more.
Her works have been translated into over thirty languages.
Her 1st novel, Purple Hibiscus, won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. Her 2nd novel, Half of a Yellow Sun won the Orange Prize. Americanah won the US National Book Critics Circle Award, and was named The New York Times Top Ten Best Books of 2013.
She was named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in the world and World’s 50 Greatest Leaders by Fortune Magazine. In 2022, she received the Harvard University’s highest honor, the W.E.B Du Bois Medal.
She is the first African woman to receive the UN Global Leadership Award. She received the PEN Pinter Prize and Barnard Medal of Distinction.
In 2019, she became the first African to deliver a Yale Graduation Speech.
